The logical scheme and the spatial organization of the single-family house near Kyiv were stipulated by the following factors: the environment, the area of the plot, the required net space, the lifestyle of the owners.

The plot is located in a densely developed modest settlement with the low-lying landscape and little greenery. These factors, as well as the size of the plot itself, which is rather small for a detached house, inspired the idea of an introverted house. The whole perimeter of the plot is lined with  a high fence. All the functions are placed inside a one-level block, which divides the plot into two courtyards: a smaller and a bigger. It is closely connected with another objective of the project, namely, to create a complex space with the gradation of private and common zones.

The house is accessed via the smaller courtyard, which is divided into three zones: entrance  zone that is accessible to everybody, semi-private zone next to the living room and a private zone which is adjacent to the master bedroom. The bigger courtyard is common space.

The house itself consists of three semi-separate blocks that are interconnected with the help of common functions. The first block is the closest to the street and contains utility rooms: the garage, the boiler room, and the hall. This is followed by a semi-private space of a living/dining room, located under a vault. The living/dining room is conceived as something between a usual room inside the house and a terrace.

This dubious nature is emphasized by the material – the walls, the vault and the floor are all laid with clay bricks. The house is pierced by a tunnel. In spring concertina-like windows are opened inviting sun rays and fresh breeze into the house. Here the extended facades overlook east and west, which enables the hosts to enjoy the sunset sitting in this room beside the fireplace.

The living/dining room adjoins the second block which contains a study, a guest room and a kitchen. This is followed by a second “cutting” that divides the first and the second blocks and accommodates a living room with a terrace and a swimming pool. This living room is also conceived as a semi-open space: the external finishing materials of the terrace (white clinker bricks and travertine cladding) are extended into the house. Thus, if one opens all the windows in the living room, the latter transforms into a single spacious terrace under a shade. A part of the master bedroom and two rooms for the children form the last third block.
