The Field in Turin, Italy by Atelier 37.2

This field was set on a pedestrian square, in front of a church, in the city centre of Torino for the Architettura in citta Festival. This installation is composed of eleven “proteiforme” wooden sculptures partly filled with soil. Although each sculpture seems to share the same DNA, they are all unique.

This installation stands at the frontier between abstraction and figuration, like castaway wooden clouds scattered on the pavement. As for most of our work, we like to trigger public imagination instead of shaping it, to play with narrative potential of spaces.

Beyond any interpretation, our wish is to introduce unlikely elements of nature within an urban environment, to create a connection with a virtual underground life.

According to various reactions of the public, this field has been seen as :

bundle of sticks, moon’s craters, antic wells, giant nests, moles’ holes within the city, a strange military squad, teepees, the metaphor of the Italian soccer team, elegant paper basket, a divine intervention ….
This installation is now at the Foundation \”Il bosco di Nicola\”, in Italy.
