This development was the final project of the now-defunct San Francisco Redevelopment Agency’s Limited Equity Program, which sought to increase affordable home ownership opportunities for San Franciscans.

The units were made available specifically to working families and individuals earning between 70 and 100% of Area Medium Income, with priority given to residents previously displaced from housing in the immediate neighborhood.

The shape of the central planter was inspired by Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain’s left-handed Fender Mustang and Jaguar guitars.

The vegetation for the project is based on ecological banding: The rear garden feeds butterflies, the mews creates seeds for songbirds, the central courtyard is planted with aloes that make nectar for hummingbirds, and the streetscape has night-blooming species that support moths.
