Gravel Hill House in Southold, New York by Studio a/b Architects

Article source: Studio a/b Architects
Long Island Sound fills the northern horizon; a coastal pond lies to the west. Both water bodies are close to the site, however the water views are not visible at ground level, except climbing up a gravel hill just at the northern boundary. In counterpoint to an existing gravel hill, the design invites climbing levels and discovering vistas. Lifted places, rooms and decks are branching out to reach views and sky. Experiences of vertical movement are provided.
Program: Master bedroom plus two or three subdividable children’s area. Deck as exterior dining room.DEC requirements restrict the footprint. Flood Plain requires pile foundation.
