New Taiwan Tower Preliminary Design Proposal in Taichung, Taiwan by TheeAe LTDApril 2nd, 2013 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: TheeAe LTD The abstract idea to represent the spirit of Taiwan was settled into the representation that creates a new image to match and balance with the existing Taipei 101. The characteristics of Taipei 101 were about strong, handsome, majestic, enterprising, powerful etc. as if it is the male tower representing Taiwan. So for the utmost beauty of the nature, the creation of female tower is necessitated to become one unity with Taipei 101 to represent Taiwan’s Spirit.
There are key elements that the design of the Tower to erect “Taiwan Tower” as an important landmark in the new special municipality. Taiwan Tower design was planned and designed with the environmental characteristics of traditional building languages as it is well expressed through Taipei 101. Its designs were considered as to representing female characteristics such as graceful, elegant, beautiful, soft, embracing, delicate, wealthy, etc.
The words are used to express the following design ideas; The economic miracle achieved by Taiwan is a world-renown phenomenon. Taiwan’s industries occupy a prominent position in the world, whether they are traditional industries that blossomed in the 70s or the new anchor of telecom and IT industries. The “MIT” (made in Taiwan) brand has also become analogous to high-quality products. This achievement is the fruit of shrewd management by Taiwan’s entrepreneurs and tireless work by Taiwan’s labor force. The motto of Yung-ching Wang, the late founder of Formosa Plastics, describes this spirit most appropriately: “work hard and be thrifty”. As for representing the economy growth of Taiwan, ancient Chinese gold and as of even now was elliptical and roundabout shape that people may read it as a symbol of Taiwan. Thus, the curved shape is well used to symbolize the female element. So the oval form is used as the main design plan grid unit to start the design. B. Cultural Achievement: Elegant, Beautiful & Delicate Five thousand years of Chinese history is manifested in Taiwan not only through the tangible artifact collection of the National Palace, but also intangibly through the art, religions, customs and folk cultures that permeate in every corner of Taiwan’s society. There is nowhere else in the world than Taiwan where Chinese culture has been better preserved. Another unique feature of Taiwan is a strong red with beautifully embedded patterns of traditional symbols. The use of red becomes another major element to be part of the tower design. The red pattern is utilized to accentuate the core elements, and the pattern combines with Prism Solar Panel System not only to get higher effi ciency of solar energy as innovative technology than current Photovoltaic solar panel system, but also to give most iconic design solution to express the Taiwanese-ness. It will be also produced by eco-friendly products to achieve LEED credits. Use of Adjustable structural steel frame to connect the each structural element mimics traditional window / door frame. At the same time, it gives space for wind turbine installation in the center of each unit. Contact TheeAe LTD
