Sumit Singhal loves modern architecture. He comes from a family of builders who have built more than 20 projects in the last ten years near Delhi in India. Article source: Arquitectos Ayala Located on the river bank, on the site of the Exhibition, the theatre volume rises: one box inside another box. It is a pure volume, plated with natural stone, undressed, with no ornamentation, standing out on the vegetation of the bank. During the day, when the theatre is still dumb, the serenity and beauty of the geometric shape announce it existence, providing Seville with another myth in its look over the river.  Image courtesy Arquitectos Ayala During the night, when the theatre opens its doors, it remains illuminated; leaving uncovered its other entrance halls and mezzanines, through the big windows half-hidden by lamas. This is the first experimental theatre built in Spain. Time and date could not be more appropriated: The 1992 Universal Exhibition, The Discoveries Exhibition, The European Union and the celebration of the 5th Centenary of the Discovery of America. All these events invited to create a building that provides many types of scenic possibilities: theatre, music, opera, dance, projections, etc.  Image courtesy Arquitectos Ayala The position and capacity of spectators also varies according to the different nature of the performances: Italian, Elizabethan, arena or concerts. Opened many hours before the performances start, the public takes possession of the theatre, buying books, walking along the lobbies, having dinner at the cafe-theatre where, before or after the main representation, it is possible to watch a small performance.  Image courtesy Arquitectos Ayala Also, for the most audacious, and in warm weather, it is possible to go up to the balcony, the highest point of this building that, on starry nights, allows one to enjoy the most beautiful views of Seville. Finally, we will mention that, in an intentional or chance way, the building looks haughtily onto the Giralda to remind us that is wants to become a little cathedral of contemporary culture.
