Article source: Patxi Cortázar and José Manuel Simón The U-shape building with orientation to the south that the approach proposes is respected, increasing the height and the flexibility of the highest alignments with the purpose of introducing a higher-than-planned number of dwellings. The building is formally brought up with rectilinear prisms and gaps every two floors, made with two prevailing materials: dark-grey prefabricated panels and glass.
The roof completes the shape of the building with a new material, the wavy sheet metal. The solar protection balconies in double-height gaps with glass elements contrast with the big prefabricated panels.Due to the urban structure, the plan foresees only one entrance to the plot. The porch located at the southeast corner is the access to the internal urbanization and, from this point, to the totality of the entrance halls through a radial net of covered fingers, so that the security is also guaranteed. All the dwellings have a solar protection balcony with mobile exterior elements made of polycarbonate and most of them have two orientations. The solar protection balcony always takes the dining room and kitchen areas, the clothes dryer being separated from the kitchen. There would be only five entrance halls, with two, three or four dwellings in each floor, so that the community expenses are optimized. Most of the dwellings have two bedrooms with a big living room that communicates with the kitchen. The three-bedroom dwellings are planned with a gallery access with glass closure, so that the house is enriched by space and takes advantage of the distribution or walkway spaces, such as the library or work spaces with natural light.
