Article source: Danny Broe Architect The brief: To create an Australian version of an English garden room at the rear of an existing Federation style brick house. Planning strategy
Features The triangular skylight was the house owner’s idea and it accentuates the shape of the triangular facets of the raked ceiling. The room replaces a small laundry and the new laundry was placed in a cute outdoor shed. The other small traditional looking shed was for storage. These sheds complement the form and materials of the main garden room in a positive way and create a private wall to the garden. The other great ideas that the owner had were artificial grass in the garden and the bamboo covering the fence. The grass is a surprisingly realistic and nice under foot. A welded steel frame forms the strong and stable structure of the room. This allows for lots of glass windows and doors to be placed around the perimeter of the room without compromising stability.
