A CONTEMPORARY MARKET IS, ABOVE ALL, A MEETING PLACE. IT IS A SPACE, WHICH IS ACCESSIBLE, BRIGHT AND OPENED TO AN EXCHANGE. A BUILDING, WHICH CHARACTER OF A PUBLIC SPACE IS SO ESSENTIAL AS ITS COMMERCIAL ASPECT. THEREFORE, WE SET FOR A BUILDING WHICH APPROPRIATES FROM ITS SITUATION, A MARKET THAT ORGANIZES ITS  PROGRAM WITH THE SAME RIGOR WITH WHICH IT ANOCHORES TO THE ADVANCED CITY.

HOW? BY ORGANIZING THE FLOOR IN A ”FISHBONE” SHAPE ORIENTED BY A NORTH- SOUTHERN AXIS TO OPTIMIZE THE SOLAR LIGHTING AND FAVOUR THE NATURAL VENTILATION. HOW? LEAVING THE NORTH FACE STYLED AS BACKDROP CUT FROM A NEW PUBLIC SPACE WHICH OPENS TO THE SOUTH – TO NICER AND WARMER SPACES. IT RESPECTS AND EMPHASIZES THE CAPITAL PRESENCE  OF SAN MIGUEL’S  HERMITAGE  BY FOLDING ONE OF ITS FACADES TO NATURALLY COLLECT THE FLOW OF VISITORS AND OFFERING PLACES TO REST.

HOW? GATHERING “SPARKS” OF THE PLACE BY CONSIDERING ITS REMEMBRANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WEATHER. HOW? USING CERAMIC MODULES INSPIRED BY TRADITIONAL LINENS: IN FACADES ARE COMBINED WITH A CLAY OF A NEIGHBOURHOOD STONE’S TEXTURE AND COLOR. IN THE INSIDE, IN CONTRAST, MODULES ARE WHITE AND GLAZED. ON THE ROOFS PLATES FLOAT OVER GLASS IN A CENTRAL SKYLIGHT OR OVER A SUPERFITION OF PLANTS THAT ENABLES TIPICAL CANARIAN PLANT (VERODES) FILL THE GAPS BETWEEN PEEKS. GLASSES, LIKE MODERN STAINED-GLASS, ARE SCREEN PRINTED IN THE SAME WAY.
