For a residence in Zeist we have designed a very exclusive and modern home spa wellness.

The house was built 3 years ago with a large cellar under the house. The client did not know exactly what they wanted in this space”, saysarchitect Maxim Winkelaar. ,,We have made an interior design for the living room and study on the ground floor. And the basement was so large that we have designeda home spa wellness and home cinema as well.

This spa wellness is created with all facilities including a swimming pool with a counter flow. The size of the swimming pool is 2.5 meters wide, 3 meters long and 1.3 meters deep. These are the perfect sizes to be able to swim in the pool with the counter flow. The counter flow unit has several adjustable positions. The water temperature is also adjustable. ,,We also used a water proof color light in the swimming pool, “says Maxim Winkelaar enthusiastic. These various lamp colorsare adjustable, blue is a tropical oasis, with green you have a natural calm look and with red you feel like you are swimming in lava.” The swimming pool is a paradise for the children of the client.

The wooden element in the basement is made of afromosia and is often used for yachts. The afromosia wood has a big advantage, if it becomes wet it doesn’t splinter. The afromosia wood is cladded on the walls of the sauna and the toilet to emphasize the element. There is also a large sauna, shower and toilet. The sauna has a glass door and also a glazed window frame. From the sauna there is a view to the spa wellness and vice versa. The window is also related to the window above the pool. This gives a playful effect. The window above the pool is the only window where daylight comes from.

For rest and relaxation in the design was chosen to obtain both natural and rigid materials. The outside of the swimming pool and sauna was covered with a wood that has a warm feel and is water proof. The longest wall in the room is covered with bricks of black slate. By indirect light in a cove above the slate creates a nice shadow effect. The shower floor is covered with gravel. Besides feeling the stones it will give a wonderful foot massage while showering. All natural materials are used in the spa wellness.By contrasting and compositions the architectsdeveloped an area with a very modern and warm touch. A perfect combination to relax in the hectic life of today.
