Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Chinchwad, Pune, India by Masafumi SanadaSeptember 5th, 2013 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Masafumi Sanada Chinchwad is a thirty minute drive from the center of Pune, and is thriving as a factory neighborhood of domestic and Western automakers. The main target for this hotel is these Western businesspersons. This was our seventh project in India, and we designed the whole interior of the newly built hotel with 14 floors and about 120 rooms. It is a five-star hotel, which is still rare in Chinchwad, and has all-day dining, a bar, spa, hair salon, gym, ex-lounge, presidential suite, and roof top bar facilities.

The design concept is “Japanese Simple Modern + Indian Traditional”. We tried to create a high-class atmosphere with materials that are available at the site, and with minimum decoration. We also intended to create an elaborate space design which is particular to Japanese, with empty spaces that represent Wabi-sabi and stimulates the senses. The hotel has three F&B facilities. Level12 is a bar on the rooftop equipped with a pool. The swimming pool was originally located next to the gym on the lower floor; however, in order to fully utilize the pool, the bar was created and the floor was separated into two floors. The pool was designed afresh as a watery scene to connect them. This will be a favorable sightseeing spot with a panoramic view of Pune. 3Spices is a 3-meal restaurant, which is located in front of the lobby and is open for 24 hours. It is segmented into the buffet and dining area with beige-colored marble floor and walls, walnut walls and fixtures, and a grilling area made with black granite. Since it is laid out next to the lobby, the glass wine rack is used as a divider and forms a small waiting bar. Japanese design components were embedded, such as wooden louvers that are used for the partition, and large-sized custom-ordered lighting fixtures that resemble paper-covered lanterns. Liner Bar has a unique rectangular shape of 33m X 4.5m. The whole bar is designed using a darker color tone, such as burgundy velvet curtains, in order to highlight the long white marble counter. There are roughly two areas. One area is right after entering the bar, where the semi-private area and large white marble counter are located, and the other area is the lounge sofa area that is accessed by heading towards the back and going up two steps.
