Article source: Herszage&Sternberg Architects The intersection of two streets in the center area of Tel Aviv, creates a particular site with a triangular shape. The building, from the early 60’s, includes 6 floors, having one apartment on each floor. The particular shape of the site was reflected on the original design of the building, creating a semi circular plan with only 3 round big columns.  Image Courtesy © Shay Epstein

The 140 m2 include a living room, a dining area, a kitchen and 3 bedrooms. Ronen Chen, the owner’s apartment, is one of the popular fashion designers in Israel. His approach to art and design improved the architects’ design process.  Image Courtesy © Shay Epstein Herszage & Sternberg decided, in the beginning of the design process, that the main design principle will be to keep and improve the original potential of the site. On the demolition process, a constructive net of beams was discovered on the ceiling and they kept it on the living room area and children’s room.  Image Courtesy © Shay Epstein The different areas of the apartment were designed according to the original radial shape of the apartment, giving a different and not regular shape for every room. Natural materials: wood, stone and black steel were used in a monochromatic white and black spirit.  Image Courtesy © Shay Epstein A black steel layer covers the round entrance wall, creating a dialog with others steel elements, like the television- library piece of furniture. The design was completed by eclectic, original pieces of furniture.
