Article source: Matteo Thun & Partners Matteo Thun & Partners has designed China’s first Zwilling Concept Store, combining show cooking and food sampling with high quality shopping, sensorial experiences and expert advice. The interior project of Matteo Thun, his partner Antonio Rodriguez and interior designer Mathilde Fourreau for German Zwilling group is the result of a longterm partnership with the company. Since many years, Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez have been developing series of knives, cutlery and cookware for the brand Zwilling, which has allowed them to gain insight into the brand philosophy and to translate it into one brand vision.
The challenge of the project: to create a relaxed atmosphere for the customers while displaying and enhancing different brands and their identities: German brand Zwilling famous for top notch cookware, and French brand Staub famed for quality cast iron kitchenware. The Zwilling Concept Store, with an overall surface of 200 sqm, is characterized by a linear layout. Different kinds of oak wood, marble counters and moody spotlights create a warm and enjoyable ambiance. Backlit shelves in matt grey run along all walls of the shop, displaying the entire product range. Wooden displays either in glossy red or wood, which can freely be arranged on the shelves, highlight key products facilitating the choice of the customer. Different tones of wooden floors create spatial and chromatic demarcation throughout the entire space, helping the customer to easily identify the area dedicated to each single brand. They all come together at an extra-long marble counter in the centre of the space, acting as the heart of the store. Here, maîtres prepare fine food all day, allowing for the client to experience the performance of the brands’ product range. A private lounge equipped with a brass clad bar hosts VIP customers. A space divider that takes up Chinese ornaments interpreted in a contemporary way provides privacy. The store-project has been guided by Matteo Thun together with his partner Antonio Rodriguez, with whom he continues to develop cutlery and cookware for the brand Zwilling.
