Sumit Singhal
Sumit Singhal loves modern architecture. He comes from a family of builders who have built more than 20 projects in the last ten years near Delhi in India.  Image Courtesy © GABRIEL CASTRO Given the very nature of the space in which it was designed, and the restrictions presented by the low ceiling, the decision was made to emphasize a feature that makes it unique – its own horizontality. In addition to this, the possibility of controlling the light allows a range of environments for the project: penumbra with focal lighting; natural light through windows, artificial and diffuse lighting. Under the full light of the ceiling’s diffusing membrane, the sharpness of the corners between walls and floors is lost, and the visitor can build him or herself a new perception of the space.  Image Courtesy © GABRIEL CASTRO The parallel lines under the diffusing membrane – brackets for equipment and works – inhibit the vision of light at distance, giving to each visitor the feeling that a cloud of light is ever following their movement. The gallery was opened on October 22, 2013 with the exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the artist Tomie Ohtake.  Image Courtesy © GABRIEL CASTRO Fernando Maculan is an architect graduated in 1997 from the School of Architecture at UFMG. His professional career began with AUA, as founding partner (1998-2003). He worked in Hayano Gumi architecture office in Tokyo (2004-2005) and was director of the project Designing Across Boundaries in London, with the designers Paula Dib and Renata Mendes (2007-2008).  Image Courtesy © GABRIEL CASTRO He is a founding partner of Molmaculan Design with Adriano Mol (since 2003), a member of the Piracema Design Lab (since 2006), collaborator of the Grupo Corpo Dance Company (since 2008), and associate architect of BCMF Architects (since 2011). He is co-founder and co-editor of the Architecture and Urbanism Magazine – MDC (2005-2008) and curator of the Coarquitetura project, which includes the works of his students from EAUFMG (2010). Maculan received awards in Brazil, Belgium and China, and had exposed projects in Brazil, Mexico, Germany, UK, Italy, South Korea and Japan.  Image Courtesy © GABRIEL CASTRO Natural from Minas Gerais, and born in 1951 in Belo Horizonte, Paulo Pederneiras is founder, general and artistic director of Grupo Corpo. Since 1975 ahead of the group, he imprinted technical and aesthetical qualities and a style that have made Grupo Corpo a brand, today recognized and consumed in countries all over the world. Actively joined the definitions of every detail of each production, signed the lighting design of all the choreographies and the set design of most of them.  Image Courtesy © GABRIEL CASTRO Designed important expositions as the INDIGENOUS ARTS AND ACHEOLOGY exhibition, part of the MOSTRA DO REDESCOBRIMENTO, for occasion of the 500th anniversary of Brazil’s discovering, the IMAGE AND IDENTITY, with the collection from the National Museum of Fine Arts, and the TREASURE OF MAPS, a cartographic exhibition that traveled to the four most important brazilian capitals. He also signed the creation of artistic installations such as “ROSA’S BUTTERFLIES”, in celebration of the 50th publication anniversary of “Grande Sertão Veredas”, from Guimarães Rosa, the JAPONESE IMMIGRATION MEMORIAL, in Belo Horizonte, among others.
