Özyeğin University Student Residence in Çekmeköy Campus, Turkey by ARK

To mitigate the high density of accommodations required on the site, the design adopts a strategy of a tri-parte form and discontinuous stepped silhouette.  These formal ideas are complimented by the unique polychrome façade that merges the large building with the surrounding landscape.

This building is the fourth phase of fast track construction of the residential campus for Ozyegin University (OZU), a new private Turkish university started in 2008.

Thethree primaryblocks of the building composition are plannedwith an efficient double loaded circulation and suites of single, double, and triple bed units.  Social spaces are provided at the “elbow” of each of the building’s wings and below grade within the central space between the three wings.

Each wing of the building is defined visually by a varied composition of solid/voids distributed according to the living suite sizes behind.  The range of façade colors enhances this complexity and is selected from the pixelization of the local landscape.  This connects the building to the site, in addition to representing the diversity of the student body housed within.
