Article source: Utopus studio Overview Overlooking the scenic Accabonac Creek, our challenge was to renovate and add a pavilion to a recently built residence. In dialogue with the client, a program was developed to extend the residence to include a new indoor spa and art studio and to add a new Pool Pavilion facing the serene waterfront.
The scenic hamlet of Springs in east Hampton is also home to the birth of the abstract expressionist art movement, and the property is located near the Pollock-Krasner House and Studio. Avid art collectors, the client wished to create a residence and sculpture garden where space flows fluidly and dynamically into one another. The proposed contemporary layout creates a seamless flow connecting the everyday spaces throughout the residence. The new layout complements the main living space as the focal point of the house, creating visual connections to the entire house including the new indoor spa and pool. Natural daylight streams through the house opening it up the scenic waterfront view. In the pool pavilion, retractable sliding doors completely open up the pavilion to the exterior and the waterfront. At the front of the house, an enlarged garage acts as a plinth for a new dual aspect studio space that is articulated as a zinc clad volume sitting atop a concrete plinth. Contact Utopus studio
