Architecture Studio in Wujigeng Building in Nanjing, China by ISO workshopApril 18th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: ISO workshop As part of old Jinglin College campus built in last20’s to30’s in Nanjing, Wujigeng Building is regarded as typical Minguo (Republic of China period 1912-1949) style, Big Chinese roof and masonry grey brick wall as main façade elements, for its representative architectural quality, the left old Jinglin College campus buildings were preserved as major historic and cultural sites under state protection.
Unlike traditional Chinese house using wood and brick wall as main supporting, Wujigeng Building is constructed mainly in concrete structure and wood stripe partition wall, Here we see the opportunity to transfer its 80 years old small student dormitory rooms to open working space of architecture studio & workshop, for professors and teachers of School of Architecture & Urban Planning of Nanjing University. Concrete column and slab, wood stripe wall, stone washed floor, wood roof structure etc, almost all representative surfaces and textures from different time in the building are carefully preserved, Newly added elements are treated as even background to emphasis the historic trace, to set off the brilliance of old.
