Article source: Spacesmith Spacesmith is pleased to announce the completion of the new headquarters for RED, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. The award-winning leader in music distribution and development requested a dynamic, collaborative environment with flexibility to accommodate music industry events. In designing a space with a strong New York City vibe, a creative visual identity and a nod to the music industry, we tailored the space to RED’s unique and diverse culture.
The reception area sets the tone by providing a central gathering place for internal and client meetings. It also functions as a cutting edge performance space for many of the artists RED represents. This area includes video streaming, low lights and modern comfortable seating. A guitar display signed by RED’s artists adds to the inspiring backdrop. Weekly performances by visiting musicians offer a \”backstage pass\” to employees and guests. At the far end of reception, an open pantry encourages impromptu exchanges between staff, guests and musicians. RED utilizes this cafe area for weekly firm-wide breakfast meetings. A tapered corridor extends from the pantry into the main office. Graffiti painted corrugated steel gates energize the reception area and lead into a large conference room. In this space, the RED staff and their distributed record labels take an engaging look at new music while cranking up the volume to feel the powerful impact of creative new artists. For larger meetings, these doors are rolled up and the two rooms are transformed into one impressive space. High ceilings and exposed ductwork create an industrial loft-like atmosphere with private offices that book-end the main work area. Painted grey, the space feels grand and spacious, drenched with natural daylight from the large north facing windows. Work stations are at the heart of the space, using orange color panels as privacy screens. Framing the open space, break out rooms modeled after sound booths are lined with ribbed steel and paneled internally with acoustic foam. The design cleverly adds elements like bean bag seating, felt and steel benches and a retro diner booth. Working within the specified budget, the Spacesmith team sought out furniture and finishes that were functional and economically viable, but also embodied the RED brand and aesthetic. Weekly performances by visiting musicians offer a \”backstage pass\” to employees and guests. This contemporary design creates an artful atmosphere that’s fitting for the progressive staff and offers a stimulating place where RED can welcome the musicians they represent.. Contact Spacesmith
