Architecture

The MCC is essentially a great public square in front of the sea (90m x 90m) covered by a thin and light roof. The plaza will be the lobby space where all the information, retail, restaurants, and temporary exhibitions can be found.

Two floors of exhibition galleries are located underground around and atrium space connected with the plaza.

The library, the center of the studies and the administration are grouped into a transparent articulated building, 13.floors high, from which the roof of the plaza hangs.

The conference center is situated at the plaza level, and on one side of the atrium space. Against its wall all the circulation of the museum will take place.

The image of the MCC is of a technological building, full of light and free space, open to the public, open to the Mediterranean sea, and one associates the building with the sea (a ship, a prehistoric fish, a glass shell). and with the Mediterranean people (a public square, an open plaza, a place for cultural exchange).

In the middle of the most important new district of offices and retail in Barcelona, the MCC will be the center of culture, linked with the activity center, in the most natural relationship, within the tradition of the Mediterranean culture.
