An old historic noble house, located in Linguaglossa, Sicily (italy) near Etna volcano, restored, becomes a charming hotel.

In 2004 the owners decided to restore the 19th century building to obtain a resort.

The will was to maintain the old charm and insert the new functions with minimal impact; the owners asked to create an intimate atmosphere, a place to feel “at home”.

The project choice was to redefine the articulation of volumes adapting them to new uses; part of walls, floors, ceiling and roofs collapsed years before, so the architects decided to demolish part of the building except the lava-stone structure.

The foundations, structure, masonry, the precious painted roofs were recovered; such as the conservation of perspective views well calibrated and expressive.

The will was to recuperate the site “mood” using soft colors, warm lights and natural materials furniture; the smooth and colorful light reflected from the ceiling vaults make the rooms cozy and romantic, to recreate a “cocoon” atmosphere.

Existing opening are retained, all spaces are renovated to create a charming atmosphere, a place to feel “at home”.

The small restaurant is essential with retro’ details. the flowery little inner Garden was recovered with Sicilian colors and materials.

In the wellness centre the ancient spirit is contaminated by contemporary attitude:

Relaxing atmosphere using lights, materials and natural stone floor.

“shalai” is a sicilian word to express the relaxing way to enjoy life: nothing is better than being at home where everything become slow and soft and you can really enjoy it!
