Article source: Schaap en Sturm Architecten The building commits 71 apartments (47 in social housing and 24 apartments for sale), a studio for guests, an huge atrium entrance hall with a collective coffee corner and terraces. Below the building is a parking, a bicycle parking and private storages. The starting point of the project where in fact two dwelling projects, with a small cycling path in between.
On idea of the architect the project is developed into one building with two different social housing associations and apartments for sale. This design idea, in order to create a project with more possibilities, in which the different functions create together a more symbiotic effect. The street facades are made of brick, the garden and atrium façade is made of zinc in order to create a contrast between (hard and soft, light and heavy). In front of each social apartment there is a bridge made of concrete to reach the entrance door and it can be used as a balcony for the residents. At a distance of 4,5 m from this balcony there is a separate gallery bridge to walk. In the atrium, the entrance hall, the bridges and stairs are pendent connected to the roof. In the project VM Zinc is used because VM Zinc delivered the material in right colours and texture and dimensions of the Zinc elements. The project is systainable because it obtain the “Zeeuws convenant duurzaam bouwen” and the Dutch strict rules on energy saving. In the convenant there are rules for choosing the right materials for saving energy and to save the environment (extra insulation, sfc certified wood, recycled concrete granulation etc.). In 2008 this project has won the special award Collective Housing Archizinc Trophy. Contact Schaap en Sturm Architecten
