This is a set of the commercial tenant buildings in Daikanyama, Tokyo.
From legal condition it was demanded to build several small volumes in narrow site, and we decided to make several volumes that seemed to be mountains. Thereby valley-shaped space between mountains is formed, where people and displayed things will overflow. Light and wind are taken enough by valley-shaped space, and each shop can enlarge itself on the mountain shaped volumes.

The mountain-shaped volumes will also create strong impressions as commercial tenant buildings.

Lengthwise windows extend over floors, and they seems all together straight from a certain direction. It is also planned that windows penetrate volumes. Thereby each mountain-shaped volume is connected and people can experience mysterious time as if the walk in forest of illusion. Like trees of the garden planted carefully, the placement of windows which looks at random at a glance are carefully decided by a geometrical rule and the suggestion from the owner side about show windows and the position of the entrance door.

The interior design of each tenant is performed by each interior designer. So we cannot control all designs of the buildings. However, it is impossible to control all of the buildings in the first place, and we don’t feel the charm in exclusive aesthetics. We intended to make strong place that looks more attractive by the interior design and displays on the walls.

A simple concept such as several mountains and valleys makes strength as an inclusive place. Rainwater drainage is conducted through gutters of skelton waterproof volume not with a conduit and para pet. The difference of each place is not made point by point, but from a big rule that integrate the whole. We think that the original principle is not weakened by the store design but becomes stronger.

We aimed at making vigorous buildings which acquires strength by overflowing with things and people.
