Article source: GIUSEPPE TORTATO Overlooking the Gulf of Trieste Verdemare residential complex, designed as a new way to experience the city in the name of eco-friendly and high standard of quality. The elements of the architectural concept gave rise to a modulated envelope created by continuous bands of parapets, like ribbons that link with the surrounding area.
“A new project that responds, through the language of contemporary architecture, to the morphological complexity of the existing elements. The composition of volumes, colors and materials set out a careful and measured dialogue with the context, emerging with a clear identity and making formal VERDEMARE a different and innovative way of living for the city of Trieste “ The intervention of the architect, Giuseppe Tortato, aims to redevelop the area of Trieste previously occupied by a branch of FIAT thus recovering the residential nature. This portion was historically occupied by urban mansions, among which the eighteenth -century Villa Murat with its extensive grounds. In the heart of an urban green space of 10,000 square meters, VERDEMARE means choosing to live in the city but at the same time surrounded by nature in a passage from the sea, the old town and “Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia”. The complex regenerates and return to Trieste a portion of the urban area, offering a privileged view of the city through an intervention environmentally friendly. The Architect Giuseppe Tortato signed the architectural concept. In charge of the artistic direction Tortato, oversaw the design of the entire project which is developed in three residential buildings of five floors with attic, for a total of 185 apartments, and two internal gardens furnished for the exclusive use of residents. There are also commercial facilities and underground car parks. Particular attention has been devoted to the definition of the casing of the buildings. The intent is to capture the dynamism and harmony of a city overlooking the sea, designing long balconies lapping all the buildings with an innovative system. The railings of the terraces, in fact, high-performance prefabricated systems are made of cast stone and perforated sheet metal or glass. The molten stone is TX Active ® cement by Italcementi studied for the Styl-Comp group (supplier for the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2015) with a photo-catalyst active principle capable of breaking down the organic and inorganic pollutants present in the air. It has also a brilliant and self-cleaning finish that gives the material a reflection of bright and pearly. The portions of the parapet are interspersed with strips of perforated metal plate that is structurally and visually lighten the system of shelters. The two elements combined in a specific composition to each floor, generate movement and lightness. These features are reinforced with natural light and dark just the lugs and the careful research done on perforated patterns. The openings in the building, in fact, are developed on a grid without ever replicating the pace of full and empty and are framed by fixtures mounted on a thin wire frame. The roof entirely made of prefabricated panels in zinc, is an integral part of this dynamic system. The elements that compose it are based on the traditional craft of sheet metal roofs. The same ridge line varies in a measured its height, so as to bind to the existing built. The architect Giuseppe Tortato has also paid great attention to color research. Through the survey of the historic facades of the Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, was chosen from a palette of colors of darker gray of the roofs switching to a lighter gray of the white curtain walls of the terraces. In the design of the two green areas, in collaboration with Arch. Margherita Brianza – P’arc Nouveau – Tortato replicates the principle of movement and harmony generated by the long strips of balconies, using a system of alternating green stripes and pavement that develop on different floors. VERDEMARE is also the result of the desire to use advanced technologies to achieve high quality residential standards. Every design choice is aimed at obtaining the maximum energy efficiency, expertly coordinating architectural design and plant engineering.
