Article source: Spacesmith Spacesmith is pleased to announce the completion of Cremieux’s first New York City retail store. Founded in 1976, the French tailored men’s collection recently moved its headquarters from Paris to New York and now operates stores in Europe, Taiwan, Qatar and Mexico. For their first NYC retail location, Cremieux chose a small 800sf space set within a landmarked Soho cast-iron building. The design was to reflect ‘Old World Soho’ while enhancing the customer’s shopping experience.
The design opens up the overall space and it’s interaction with the street-scape, all without compromising the building’s character. The store reflects the atmosphere of a long-standing establishment with a twist of a modern boutique. Original exposed brick lends a warmth and character to the evocative backdrop, a beautiful compliment to the pure white walls. Custom millwork is consistent throughout using rich oak wood shelves and displays that match the oak floors. These backlit shelves appear to magically float while concealed LED cove lighting add to the displays’ weightlessness which showcase the sporty collection. The dividing walls of the stairway have been modernized with glass to enhance light and transparency providing an open view to the street. A clean, contemporary check out area sits in front of a vintage tin wall that extends through the second floor, integrating the two levels. On each floor, dressing rooms are stacked on top of each other to create a tower like shape in the vertical space. The overall effect contrasts the roughness of the existing shell with minimalist design intervention. The result is an inviting, modern, and refined retail space that reflects the values of the Cremieux brand. Contact Spacesmith
