Article source: Sara Folch Interior Design Up & Down DIR was a special project. Sara Folch Interior Design was in charge of the design of an old disco into a new luxury gym in the city of Barcelona, Spain. The old disco was an emblematic place in the town and it had a lot of fame.
Up & Down DIR, which has three different floors with more than 400 square meters in each floor, received the name from the disco. The name refers to the different floors of the building, the “Up” which is the Ground Floor; and the “Down” which is the Underground one. The floors are divided between Work zone, and reception for the Ground Floor, and the SPA and the changing rooms for the underground floor. The work zone has different gym machines in order to practice, those machines are displayed in order they are looking the street, so you are making some sport while you can see what is happening in the real street thanks to the building which is surrounded instead of walls of windows. The underground floor is where all the changing rooms and the relaxing area are located. You can use either the SPA or the sauna. The SPA has aquatic leds in order to change the water color depending the day and the period time of the day. The male’s changing room is painted with military khaki color while the women’s one is painted in sand color with some purple dots. The materials used in the building where highly studied in order they were prepared to be in a gym and be permitted by the law. To be prepared for all day on, Sara Folch Interior Design count on leds lights because they are low energetic waste and they can be on for some hours, and they do not waste to much energy as other gym lights. The floor was made by linoleum for the machine zone and for the weightlifting area we used rubber. For Sara Folch Interior Design doing this project was a challenge, because it was the first gym that we did for a public company. Clubs DIR is a very known gym network in the city of Barcelona and it was a challenge to do this project, but we are very proud from it and each time we pass next to it we feel like if it was our home.
