Article source: atelier rzlbd For the last 20 years, since moving to her apartment, Heather Lang had been dreaming of turning her home from dated and dreary into an airy open-plan New York style loft. Her home, while not the perfect place, was known as Heather’s Hotel, welcoming visitors from far and wide to enjoy wonderfully hospitality and great cooking. Plus, her residence was often the venue for very large family gathering. It was important to her that while the form and feel of her home would change with a new look, that the functionality to continue to allow her place to be a warm gathering place would not change, and would be improved. rzlbd was up to challenge! The results speak for themselves.
The architectural intervention started with exposing the apartment to its essential structural elements and rebuilding it with a simple goal in mind: to invite the natural light from the south & west walls to travel inside the condo and its long, narrow corridor. With this in mind, all the unnecessary partition walls were removed, both in the kitchen and previously long and dark corridor, and replaced with open mill works and operable translucent panels. The upgraded and spacious kitchen has allowed her to be a part of action, rather than being cut off from guests while entertaining, plus providing state of the art facilities and space for producing great meals. The flexible bedroom configuration has provided the opportunity to arrange spaces to accommodate the needs of many overnight guests, while being office and lounging spaces when not being used for guests. The updated master suite and bathroom add to the luxurious feel of the home, and are the perfect compliment to the more public spaces of the home. The mandate was fulfilled with Heather’s Hotel turning into the Lang Loft – a flexible and functional, bright, beautiful and open space. Mandate achieved. Contact atelier rzlbd
