Article source: Curime Batliner The piece, “Design Miami” was an investigation into the design and fabrication of aggregated assemblies and was intended from its initial design stage to be shown as a concept piece at Design Miami.
Miami the world renowned attractor point for diverse cultures, design and arts, surrounded by beaches and water, set the motive and theme of the piece, – crystallization and fluids. Building upon Aranda/Lasch investigations into material organizations, in which parts communicate with one another through an intelligence built-in through modularity and computation, the work introduces fluid elements into a system of set basic primitives. The parametric relationship between the components, which allow small parts to grow into larger assemblies, is maintained for data organization, but “infused” by a series of fluid elements, which only share the bounding boxes of the original primitives.
