Article source: Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects Kjellander + Sjöberg has in collaboration with the developer Byggnadsfirman Erik Wallin, developed two new buildings in the block Jackproppen, in Hjorthagen, Stockholm, consisting of housing, a playground and a preschool.  Image Courtesy © Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects The project connects the old area of Hjorthagen northwest of Abessinien, with the development area of Norra Djurgårdsstaden. The property, which currently consists of two rows of garages, forms a ledge in the landscape where the new buildings follow the site’s steep topography, along the mountain. The curved building volumes create a public passage and an undulating courtyard, which is used both by the preschool and the residents.  Image Courtesy © Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects The block provides new connections to adjacent routes and green spaces – the Hjorthagspark and the gasometers. The buildings are to be constructed in timber with green roofs and will relate to the nature of their surroundings both in form and materiality. The buildings are C- and S-formed in plan and are composed of wedge-shaped units.  Image Courtesy © Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects Erik Wallin AB has been allocated the land transfer by the Stockholm municipality, for approximately 40 space-efficient housing units, a preschool and parking spaces in the garage in order to meet current and future demands. The development will be reviewed in the planning process, with regard to content and design. Construction is due to commence in 2017. The land transfer was approved on the 11th of December 2014.
