 Image Courtesy © Jérémie Koempgen Architecture This pavilion is designed in the same way as the furniture pieces, it shows the different surface conditions we get using different processing and assembly methods. It also tells the inside and outside uses that we can think of. This shed is a micro-architecture by itself, designed like a piece of furniture. Its modularity allows us to experiment different exterior uses which will fit to urban and rural situations.  Image Courtesy © Jérémie Koempgen Architecture The making of: 1. Modules As they are used for shipping windows, we chose to use 4 pallets as the structure. When putting these together we get a 4 m long x 2,4 m wide element. Laths After that, laths from used windows have to be screwed in place, on the pallets, they are installed to offer a number of different uses. Mixing laths from different upcycled windows emphasizes the diversity of wood species. The wood used for manufacturing windows and doors is of high quality and can be used outside. On each module, the roof is supported by knee-braces that follow the palette shape. Wood coming from used windows is of very high quality but replaced windows are most often burnt or buried as is. Almost 6 million of units are replaced each year in France. It appeared to us as obvious that we could manufacture really interesting pieces of furniture using upcycled wood from them. We are at the moment prototyping and in the process of creating a business.  Image Courtesy © Jérémie Koempgen Architecture We met Jérémie Koempgen (JKA) on a farm restoration project. He was the project manager and we were responsible for installing the windows. We were already thinking of finding a way to use wood from old windows as a material for creating new objects. We discussed that during numerous car travels and decided to start cooperate on this ambitious project as Jérémie was very interested on going further. The agency acquires expertise in the implementation of timber structures, coatings and insulation issued from the timber industry, implementation of vegetated sloping roofs as well as in ironwork details. Jérémie Koempgen now teaches structure, morphology, and architectural ambience at the ENSA, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Nantes.
