Hampton/Queenslander house renovation in Brisbane, Australia by Baahouse + BaastudioMarch 4th, 2015 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Baahouse + Baastudio Set amongst a leafy hilly area in Brisbane’s inner city suburb Norman Park, Greg Taylor and Hayley Lewis approached Baahouse + BaaStudio to assist them for ideas and planning in renovating their existing 1880’s Queenslander family home. Their existing house is typical of many Queenslanders, whilst they have some aesthetically pleasing features’, the house was hidden from the street down a dark path, leading to a small cold house requiring a lot of upkeep and maintenance to bring it up to today’s modern living standards. Adding to the fact the house was cold and dark, there were many unusable spaces that could not be utilised, and the dining and lounge family areas were cramped and small.
Many consultations were arranged with the client to understand their practical needs for a growing family as well as exploring design styles that they liked, to transform their home into a suitable design that would open up the house to better functioning usable living spaces, whilst creating lots of light and reflecting their personal tastes and sense of style. To achieve this, the house design included detailed cabinet design and large feature high ceilings exposing wooden trusses in the lounge, dining and kitchen rooms that replaced the existing deck area and made a central area for the family in the house. The new style of Hampton/Queenslander fusion meets the needs for a stylish, functional and climate suitable family home. The project to convert this existing Queenslander into the Hampton style house it is today took one year of planning and one year of construction with Baahouse + Baastudio collaborating with builders Kim Alexander. This transformed home has become a masterpiece in home renovation and we believe one of Brisbane’s most beautiful homes inside and out. We are extremely proud of the finished result. It is fantastic to see the detail and extent of the design and drawings executed beautifully by the builders and the many specialists engaged including but not limited to; cabinet makers, landscape architects, shingle roof layer, engineers etc. Are you considering renovating your own Queenslander house.
