Article source: ATELIER KEMPE THILL The team Atelier Kempe Thill (Rotterdam) – osar (Antwerp) has recently won the international competition for the new education centre T2-campus at the former mining site Waterschei, nowadays known as ‘Thor park’ in Genk, Belgium. The new school building will be used by Syntra Limburg, VDAB Limburg and the city of Genk.
The ambition of the project is to realize a new education centre for technical professions in collaboration with different partners from the industry that will stimulate the development of the technology sector in the region of Limburg. The building consists mainly out of three parts. On the ground floor a huge flexible industrial hall will be realized offering a variety of workshop and studio spaces for different groups of trainees. On the upper floors rooms for group education will be realized. These classrooms and the studios will be connected by a big atrium functioning as a social connector and exposition space.
