Article source: CCM2 architectes Located in Quebec City, the Lebourgneuf Community Center is a central element for the community because of the activities offered and its proximity to Les Prés-Verts Elementary School. The Center is directly connected to the school and is a major partner for recreational, educative and sociocultural activities. The extension project consisted in adding a double gymnasium, two locker rooms with sanitary facilities, a divisible workout gym and a classroom. The extension has two steel structure levels and was designed according to a future extension of Les Prés-Verts Elementary School and a new local library.
The concept has been developed considering many constraints of the site such as a wooded area, liable to flooding areas and future constructions (school and local library). The extension is a pilot study for universal accessibility. Every public space, circulating area, locker room and class room is designed in order to allow people with reduced mobility, impaired vision, elderly person or young children to be independent in the building.
