FIRE STATION OF THE VOLUNTARY FIRE DEPARTMENT FLERES by ROLAND BALDI ARCHITECTSOctober 11th, 2015 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: ROLAND BALDI ARCHITECTS The most striking element of the fire station is its monolithic facades, which are characterized by a clear and modern design and the reduced selection of the materials stone, glass and aluminum.
The building, conceived as a continuation of the scree, which is caused by periodic mudflows from the mountain slope behind the construction area, was partially integrated into the retaining dam and penetrates the same out again just to optically continue the movement of the scree downstream. For the design of the facades dolomitic rocks and rubble gained from the excavation on site were filled into custom made gabions. The use of local stones and gabion-walls for the covering of the facade strengthens the identity between the construction site and the building and merges the modern design of the fire station with its natural surroundings.
