The inspiration for the youth housing project comes from the classic villas in the old Frederiksberg. Thirteen detached two-storey houses are placed on the site, leaving little gardens in the gaps between. The terrain rises towards east, which creates a space for public functions facing the street such as library, study room and a shared kitchen.

The concept of each villa is flexible and has for four different layout options, which makes room for one to four people per house in either co-housing or private apartments.

Each villa opens up towards a garden, which links the living room and kitchen to a semi-private outdoor space where the inhabitants can meet and interact.

The private functions as bedroom and bathroom are placed upstairs and covered by a shielded facade. This generates the feeling of a private area.

The ground floor in each villa is set back, creating space for public flow between the small villas and through the patios. The facade is transparent and provides the social areas of the house with daylight and visual contact to the surrounding houses.

The villas can contain four different house types varying from collective to larger egoist housing:

Version 1 – “Collective”:Four persons share a kitchen on the ground floor and bathroom on the first floor. This version is near to the classic college feeling.

Version 2 – “Student accommodation”: The villa is divided in two units where two personsshare the kitchen on the ground floor and bathroom on the first floor, while they have their own individual private room on the first floor.

Version 3 – “Guest professor”: The villa is divided in two units. This version is perfect for teachers with kitchen and living room on the ground floor. Bedroom and office is located on the first floor.

Version 4 – “Egoist”: The villa is divided into four units where every resident has a private kitchen on the first floor. Bathroom and bedroom is located on the first floor.
