Article source: KEM STUDIO KEM STUDIO Boosts West Bottoms Revitalization with Luxury Apartments at Stockyards Place in Kansas City, MO, USA. $7 million project adds 11 apartments and retail space in this up-and-coming area The new Stockyards Place apartment complex at 1515 Genessee Street, Kansas City, is now completed and the luxury apartments are available to rent. Designed by KEM STUDIO, a firm fusing architecture and industrial design, the Stockyards Place apartments offer contemporary living options and a first floor designed for commercial/retail space in this up-and-coming Stockyards District of the West Bottoms neighborhood.
The Stockyards Place apartments are designed with a modern approach using materials such as precast concrete and glass. The interiors feature open floor plans, top-of-the line kitchens, large balconies, and beautiful metal work railings by Pakistani artist Asheer Akram. Architect and KEM STUDIO principal, Jon Taylor, says, “The Stockyards Place development embodies the direction in which the district is rapidly moving. It pays homage to the industrial legacy of the neighborhood, while simultaneously reflecting the modern sensibilities of the businesses, bars, restaurants and galleries now populating the area. At KEM STUDIO, we’re already champions of this area because our own offices are located in this vibrant community.” Stockyards Place was conceived as a catalyst for future development and a stake in the ground by developer Bill Haw regarding the quality of the development to come in the area. The apartments are a mix of one- and two-level units and come in a variety of sizes including 822-square-foot studios, 1,200-square-foot one-bedrooms, 2,200-square-foot two-bedrooms and a single 3,000-square-foot three-bedroom unit. Rents are expected to range from about $1,600 month for a studio up to $5,600 a month for the three-bedroom unit. The apartments are currently available for rental. The West Bottoms area is Kansas City’s former livestock and meatpacking district and lies between Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas with easy access from I-670. The revitalization of this neighborhood includes the Livestock Exchange Building, a historic landmark and now one of the largest office buildings in Kansas City, HAW/CONTEMPORARY gallery, and the Telegram Building, which houses the Bill Brady Art Gallery, Amigoni Winery’s tasting room, DMH advertising agency, and professional offices – including the offices of KEM STUDIO. Contributors to the Stockyards Place project include developer Bill Haw, contractor Centric Projects, architects/planners Foss Seligson & Lafferty, civil engineers BHC Rhodes, engineers PKMR, engineers PMA, and the Livestock Exchange LLC.
