The exhibition tells the public the history of one hundred years of the School of Library Science in Catalonia since the founding moment with Prat de la Riba and the conception of Eugeni d’Ors, his defining moment in the Commonwealth of Catalonia, their stages of continuity in both military dictatorships, to its positioning in the educational landscape of democracy. Nonetheless, its main idea is to convey the ability to renew of this profession and therefore their educational environment within the context of the University of Barcelona, being today a dynamic and future focused profession, linked to the many changes that occur around books and records management.

CONCEPT OF ASSEMBLY

The exhibition looks for a most contemporary image possible where the public could capture the atmosphere of this major change that the world of communication, culture and knowledge which includes a library has suffered.

The visitor, once immersed in this clear and direct environament, approaches to the content through the mural chronology and thematic classification of interactive screens.

The main room of the exhibition is completely white, clean and bright as defined by the founding text of Eugeni d’Ors about how Popular Libraries should be like. In fact, this text has served as a reference and thread from the beginning of the project to support the content of the exhibition selected and developed by the curators.

DESIGN OF THE ASSEMBLY

These Popular Libraries are present in the room in a linear white shelf, placed at 105 cm from the ground, that surrounds the room completely and is interrupted only by the door steps. Inside the bookshelf some white books can be found, in the back of those it shows an classification by themes, just like an encyclopedia. At the top, it relies a section L panel with the chronology that describes the history of the profession and the libraries of our country over the last hundred years.

At the center of the room a large white table is built, reading a study and reading space that is present in a traditional library, which contains several museography elements and two major and interactive screens, a symbol of the evolution of both the profession and facilities that make up the network of libraries.

Therefore, the exhibition has neither modern nor antique, original nor facsimile furniture, but its digital reproduction, which is usually nowadays the most common query way of ancient documents to the public.
Above the visitors, and comprising the overall exhibition picture, a cloud of knowledge covers the ceiling of the room. Acting as a light diffuser, hundreds of letters are printed on vegetal paper tracing words related to the profession, language, culture and country. A suspended cloud condenses all the knowledge contained in a library but is also conceptually linked to the new technologies of information management and processing of documentation.
