Article source: arqflores This house is located in the city of Riyadh, in the heart of Saudi Arabia. The design of this villa is a contemporary blend of Mexican and Arabic cultures, where knowledge of local traditions, materials, textures, mexican colors, as well as the knowledge of some methods of the building area were important for their development and termination.
The villa is located in front of the wadi Al Hanifa, for that reason the main views were directed towards the wadi to enjoy vegetation in the middle of the desert landscape. Mexican materials like traditional clay floor and handmade red bricks were cut and settled in non-conventional ways into walls, columns, floors and overhangs, creating that mexican feel. Perimeter overhangs made in steel with embedded red bricks, were designed to give sunscreen protection to the building while giving order to the construction and geometric continuity. The hand finished texture of the exterior walls is similar to that traditionally used in Saudi walls, plus the red fade mexican color on these walls complete this innovative composition. Middle Eastern tradition of wealth in architecture is present in superbly finished interiors in warm neutral tones to harmonize with the pieces of art, furniture and accessories. The floors are decorated with pebble friezes of organic forms that run the length of the villa to connect the interior spaces with outdoor spaces and different spaces between them. The amazing gypsum ceilings technique (not used in Mexico), allowed to design and manufacture some wonderful ceilings that integrates with the friezes floor designs. Essential, was the careful balance between fine finishes and rustic finishing materials, the dialogue between straight lines and curved lines was also significant for the design of this magnificent villa.
