Article source: André Mesquita In an existing Loures villa was introduce three different dwelling areas. This areas were united morphologically and structurally through the treatment of void areas and zenithal windows. The spatial organization was adapted to the existing typological structure giving rise to new spaces revealing the potential of pre-existing ones. These intervention lives of small subtleties, such as the variation of the different heights, zenithal windows and by small touches on the use of color.  Image Courtesy © André Mesquita
 Image Courtesy © André Mesquita On the ground floor of the old house, morphologically the oldest part of the dwelling, the metric of the space was kept. On one of the facades was introduce a new large and tall window framed by a concrete volume to differentiate between the existing forms and our intervention. This window visually attempt to join two gardens which were so far apart visually but almost together physically.  Image Courtesy © André Mesquita  Image Courtesy © André Mesquita We takes advantage of an old kitchen which was blued to the bigger volume of the old house, through a staircase, creating a connection zone between the old container and the new volume. It is through the redesign of the kitchen facade with the introduction of a longitudinal window that we prepares the old volume of the kitchen to the inserting of the new concrete form.  Image Courtesy © André Mesquita  Image Courtesy © André Mesquita In the first floor our intervention reintroduces the metric of the ground floor creating and uniting living spaces and transit spaces, in which the dichotomy between them is revealed through the character of the metrics and voids created. It was like a thread stitching the intervention. These differences try to introduce a dynamic of discovery to the simplicity of volumes between the old existing house and the new contemporary intervention of its interior.
