Article source: aadd+ ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN DUBOËLLE Direction Paris suburb, and more particularly the town of Montreuil, a village that has preserved all its nature, fitting perfectly to the “Grand Paris” Project. This project that gathers the main raising architecture issues held by the city of Paris. Indeed, reaching the demographic requirements inherent to the population’s growth implies an increase of the buildings density. Many municipalities like the city of Geneva, Switzerland, have already amended their rules planning in order to increase buildable volumes in elevation.
In France, in response to the call for “Grand Paris” Project, architects have yet proposed to address the density issues by heightening the density of the less dense downtown buildings and neighborhoods houses, like this one. The elevation allows a targeted urban intensification and the installation of large areas with exceptional sights. An architectural revolution is running. BEFORE Just steps from the Metro Robespierre on Line 9, Garibaldi Street, this building, as shown on the photograph, is originally composed with 3 floors. The transformations performed by AADD+ architect’s office (Steered by Vincent Duboëlle – Director) consist of a two levels extra heightening to the building made out with timber frame and clad in zinc anthracite. These two floors dedicated to the installation of apartments reach a surface of 250m² with 50m² terrace for each, ten Duplex apartments from studios to T5 which most overlooking a terrace and being distributed in the volume. AFTER The building has been provided with a terrace all along its length, allowing breathtaking views of the surroundings. Facing South, this terrace also guarantees an almost continuous sunshine illumination. The architect took the bias to break with the original built by providing the elevation a color set of black and anthracite gray that contrasts with the original building and proposes a set of designer colors and materials while repeating the codes of slate Parisian roofs. Harmonize old and new, modernity and tradition, such are the challenges that the “Grand Paris” Project architects will have to rise in order to expand and densify the city without disfiguring it. The gauntlet has been taken up here with this heightening giving a facelift to the building! Having a terrace in the Paris area is an advantage that few lucky can currently boast! But thanks to the emergence of such atypical housings, offering double height and outdoor spaces (terraces, loggia, view of the roofs, …), enjoy a terrace is an advantage that will become popularized in the forthcoming years. Since the elevations are an increasing share of demand from Real estate agencies. Elevations which and generate high quality surfaces. Become actors in the city of tomorrow. As you will have understood, one of the ways forward to improve the quality of life in cities lies on a vertical growth of buildings that compose them. The benefits are endless: creation of new housings without sacrificing new lands, new housing opportunities Downtown or in suburbs, and of course, possibilities to rearrange spaces into terraces, gardens, vegetable gardens … So many spaces to be invested to build the city of tomorrow. Far from the rumble of the street and perfectly integrated to neighborhood, this outstanding terrace is ideally located on the courtyard side of the building and overhangs the rooftops, offering both an exceptional sight and tranquility. The Most: the parquet that galvanizes and warms literally this outdoor space. On the court side, the succession of three terraces that overlook the apartments literally invites to take the aperitif with friends! A plus for the conviviality but also for the brightness, the terraces enlarge the space with their large bay windows and allow taking advantage of a natural light providing an optimal illumination during the day.
