Article source: Söhne & Partner architects The design for the “Masterplan Seebad Breitenbrunn” was created in collaboration with ‘Best(un)Built’ and ‘Alles ist Landschaft’ within an EU-wide open competition call. Even though we didn’t win we are happy about a nomination among the top 5 of a total of 50 participants.
The city of Breitenbrunn has been a secret hotspot for wind surfers for a while. By setting up a Learning Center for wind and kite surfers as well as sailors (short form: WLCBB) this draft highlights the already existing potential of this place and develops a new vision: the new Center as a lively education-, sports- and leisure-facility. It will not only deal with the historical background and the development of wind sports over time, but also host (inter)national exhibitions on that topic. From the beginning all visitors are guided through the whole area by the dominate promenade. Along the way they will find seating, green areas and attractive recreational areas. The zigzag-course of the promenade is based on the typical course of a sailing ship and enables new perspectives towards the lake. The harbour basin structures the area and also functions as a transition zone between the arrival and the recreation setting. By implementing a clear, partly spatial separation of the different zones the design not only contributes to an increased comfort for the athletes but also increases the safety of all users.
