OMR Art Gallery in Colonia Roma Norte, Mexico City by Max von Werz Architect

After 30 years in a turn-of-the-century Porfirian villa, the contemporary art gallery OMR decided to move to a new location. The design strategy was to preserve the existing brutalist building as much as possible, adjusting some interior details so as to bring out the character of the building and transform it into a generous exhibition space. A vertical one story extension accommodates all back-of-house functions. The result is a sober project that amplifies the character of the original building whilst preparing it for a new cultural life without resorting to the international conventions of the sterile white cube.

Mateo Riestra (Mexico City, 1980)

Architect´s degree from Universidad Iberoamericana, masters degree from the Architectural Association in London. Collaborated at the ARUP Advanced Geometry Unit. Founder of the brand Lupe Toys.  www.lupetoys.com

José Arnaud Bello (Oaxaca, 1976)

Architect´s degree from Universidad Iberoamericana, masters degree from the Architectural Association in London. His work spans architecture, visual arts and education.

Max von Werz (Montreal, 1977)

Architect´s degree from the Architectural Association in London, masters degree from the London Metropolitan University. Collaborated at David Chipperfield Architects and Tatiana Bilbao Estudio.
