The road is made by walking…, as Antonio Machado said some decades ago. In this way, the Caro Hotel has been forging its own path for some time now, first with the completion of Alma del Temple Restaurant, recently connected to the hotel, and now the hotel itself. The building, a recognized Hotel Monument, is like a palimpsest on which each of its numerous residents have left their mark, the latest being our studio. Integrated elements and cultures that have been revealed slowly over time… featuring the noteworthy 12th-century Almohad wall standing 15 meters high, which runs lengthwise down the center of the building.

The ash-toned monumental façade, also protected heritage, contrasts with a bright, open interior, in light colors. A solid-wood door welcomes visitors that come seeking a good read, a delightful gastronomic experience or an interesting conversation, making the hotel a true “home”. The building is also a small museum, subtly exhibiting its history through elements integrated into the very walls, floors and ceilings of the new spaces created.

The lobby, in the entrance, serves as a connection between the reception area, which is built into the original brick wall like a light box, and the 19th-century staircase, which has been a focal point for generating spaces and leads towards the first rooms and the library, at the foot of which we find the oldest mosaic in the city (1st century BC); it also gives onto Alma del Temple Restaurant and finally, on the opposite side, Meta Bar and the terrace, which in summer will connect with the inner bar through a pivot door with dark wood slats to protect from the sun. The importance of the existing structural elements has led us to use neutral materials, such as glossy resin floors in very light colors, \”arabescazo\” marble for the bar, walls in the same color as the flooring, and neutral furniture that contrasts with other designer pieces.

The hotel’s 26 rooms are all unique. The complexity of the spaces has made it necessary for each room to be dealt with in a special, unique way. The fact that the hotel houses items of historical value has conditioned the distribution and morphology of each room. One of the most noteworthy rooms is the Suite, which features ceilings crafted in the last century, exquisite plasterwork in the sitting room and a restored fresco in the bedroom. Mink-colored concrete floors and walls contrast with the earthy colors of ancient brick and stone walls, and with the oak-stained and lacquered wood furniture, also in the same hues. The lighting, both in the bedrooms and the rest of the hotel, is extremely warm and understated.

More than a hotel, the Caro aims to become a part of the city, a place to stop and regain the essence of life, an oasis of tranquility for our new era. We have loved this space over the past 5 years as if it were our own \”home\” and we hope that all the \”travelers\” who decide to stop here enjoy it just as much.
