RG House in San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Italy by Studio di Architettura Claude PetarlinDecember 28th, 2016 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Studio di Architettura Claude Petarlin The project involved the renovation and extension of an attic developed on three levels located in a hilly area. The main objective was to design a new access to the attic, independent from the rest of the large family house built in the ’90s. A new volume porch with a double height was created, fitting to the house containing the entry staircase which from the garden leads to the covered terrace. The interiors see a large living area with a kitchen integrated to the living room, three bedrooms with their bathrooms, composed in a sequence as a sort of promenade, with an organizational and spatial arrangement reminiscent of a raumplan. To increase the sense of spaciousness and brightness of the rooms, the old wooden beams were painted in opaque enamel. Quality materials have been used as with the ipe’ wood planks for the exterior, the porcelain tiles of various shapes and colours for the bathrooms; some other elements already in place such as the afromosia parquet and the Asiago stone were instead given new shine.
About Architect Born in 1969 in Saint Martin D’Heres (France), I live in Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza). I graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of Venice, under the supervision of Prof. Sergio Los, with a thesis in the study of civic architectural features of the buildings. I passed the state exam for the professional qualification and since April 3rd 2001 I am registered at No. 1358 of the Order of Architects of the Province of Vicenza. After working with some professional architectural firms,I started my own firm in 2003 and since then I dedicate myself to the design of new buildings, to renovations and interior design, and occasionally to Object Design. Every assignment of the firm, be it the design of a new building, a restoration or a remodeling of interiors, is an opportunity to share ideas and experiences in synergy with the client, with the understanding that the contemporary architectural design requires to abandon any working methods based on intuition alone, to reach instead methods which call for responsible design. I believe that sustainability, which is so much talked about nowadays, must be part of a technical, creative and economic process, aimed at obtaining the well-being both of the individual and the environment. I express these concepts through a multidisciplinary approach to the project; from this point of view, leaving the role of levying arbitrary and subjective choices, the goal is to provide, among the “infinite possibilities”, sure and certain answers to the needs and expectations that the same context requires, whilst targeting at the same time a final result, a visible one, one apparently made of space but also of substantial textures, tactile experiences and chromatic quality of the surfaces.
