Article source: GAO architects Reconstruction of the interior of a house in Domžale, Slovenia The house in Domžale was originally built in the 90’s. Therefore the interior before the renovation reflected trends of that era. The lifestyle and design guidelines have changed a lot since then and the clients felt the urge to make functional and aesthetic changes.
Our first instinct and creative challenge was to connect all the spaces of the living area. We achieved this with an U-form shaped closet, that functions as a wardrobe in the hallway and on the other side in a living room as a wall unit. The closet is the most dominant element as it has the darkest wooden texture in the living area. The horizontal structure of the oiled veneer creates a refined and organic look. The other two parts of the space – the massive wooden countertop and the dining table are identified with the same light solid Oak wood with a natural finish. This creates a fresh and uplifting contrast to the dark wood of the closet. New concept of the interior brings the dining table in the center of living area, which connects now much bigger kitchen with living room. Another element that is connecting the kitchen and the dining area are the “Spider” lights. The chromed silver bulbs are gently dispersed in a playful composition, creating an interesting play of light and shadows. The double repetition above the counter and the dining table brings harmony into the space. The main focus in the living area is the antique mirror that gives an elegant finishing touch and catches the attention and visually opens a new dimension. The whole space is softened with rich white curtains, that hug the space in a theatrical way and also reduce the sounds. The colour palette of the interior is complemented with a black display cabinet and a grey sofa that was designed having in mind the maximum comfort of the client. The artworks belonging to the clients were already part of the old interior and were repositioned to fit in the new concept. The artworks now perfectly fit in the room; the space is now more modern, brighter and it seems bigger. The design of both bathrooms is simple, clean, functional and it follows the current trends and novelties in sanitary ceramics. The mirrors are used as a red thread that enlarges and enriches the space. Contact GAO architects
