‘ LOCAL, FRIENDLY AND GREEN ‘

The project area residential pattern has been isolated between, Ege University residences and İzmir-Manisa main arterial road.This isolated attitude of the zone is reflected to the project area due to the inadequacy of the socio-cultural functions of the transfer zone and the open area density can not be kept permanent.

Starting from the above data, the project subject is to convert the Evka3 subway station exit  area into social center and transfer station by reinforcing it with the ESHOT terminals that are to be reorganized. Beyond the desired architectural program solution, it has been considered as a ‘friendly localization’ of a naked part of the city, based on urbanism, under a strong green pasture landscape. On a largescale, the project area can be defined as the ‘touchzone’ of the green texture of the Ege University Campus Lodgings with the help of urban parks that link up with project sites 2 and 3 in the north and are proposed to be organized.

BASIC THOUGHTS OF DESIGN

The basic idea is to apply the space and space decisions that will make the volume of the functional needs given by the architectural program at minimum in a design to be created in the form of a ‘urban park consisting of land scape arrangement’.

DEFINING THE FUNCTIONS IN THE PROJECT AREA

The design of the transfer station to be built in the field was initiated by establishing the relationship between the two main means of transport for the passenger flow. These are the ESHOT platforms and the second one is Evka 3 Metro Station exit points. The distance between the ESHOT platforms and the station exit points has been extended  in the north-south direction to the extent allowed by the land boundaries and bus station platform circulation area size ; and the cultural , bazaar, artisans and eating – drinking functions foreseen for the transfer center passenger flow among them will be utilized as islands.

ARRANGEMENTS MADE IN THE REGION ACCORDING TO THE DESIGNED PROJECT

  1. Linear analysis of green areas and green contact

Areas 2 and 3, and the green park traces that are connected to these areas, are considered together with the lodging sections of the Aegean University forest areas according to the green density they have. The terrace of the transfer center is naturalized and the green trail in the north is considered a contact point connecting to the campus area.

  1. A proposal to ease of pedestrian access to the project area from the center :

It is determined that the junction component route which is located in front of Ege University lodgings and used by the intercity buses to land/board  passengers is required to relieve  in terms of both traffic and pedestrian flow. This narrow sidewalk is the point where the pedestrian circulation from the transfer center towards both the campus and Bornova center direction is the busiest. It is necessary to remove the passenger landing/boarding of intercity buses from this area. For this purpose , after the gas station to the north, a large bus stop was planned for 4 intercity bus and the traffic congestion there has been removed.

Transportation from the newly created point to the transfer center is free from traffic and is close.

The area, which is a one meter side walk in the present, was converted into a tree-lined pedestrian path, taking approximately 18 meters from the Ege University site.

Starting from the guesthouse building on the corner of the Ege University Lodgings, the narrow sidewalk area to the Osman Kibar Junction in the north-south direction will carry only pedestrian and bicycle access to the university lodgings and a pedestrian area with a locked grass parquet floor about 170 m in length, Joined the city as a circulation area, and the bottom of the junction viaduct which is very weak in terms of pedestrian circulation areas, is open to  Bornova city center and extended to provide healthy pedestrian spread. At the same time, the space between the two viaducts is also afforested.

  1. Bicycle route

The main bike route has been established to  the Evka 3 Transfer Center projected from the traffic training center in the east. The route ends in a BISIM station in front of the transfer center with a parking space of 100 bikes.

At the same time, it reaches the 2nd and 3rd project sites in the north , with pedestrian and bicycle-priority  streets and redeveloped park areas as traffic-free areas. The bike route reaches easily to southwards to the entrance of the Aegean University Campus  via the entrance of  Ege University Lodgings widened and opened to pedestrians. Moreover  the bike route can reach the center of Bornova under Osman Kibar Junction viaduct.
