Conference Room at The Moulin De La Forge in Vexin, France by Bernard Desmoulin ArchitecteJune 28th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Bernard Desmoulin Architecte The architect’s statement This little wooden building is seemingly more a line on a strech of water than an architectural structure. Located on a lake, in the french region of the Vexin, this conference room becomes part of the majesty of this place of peace, harmony and calmness. Its shape reminds of timeless vernacular architecture, using the familiar language of a fisherman’s house on slits. Just like the choice of the materials.
The client’s statement At the head of a vast domain dedicated to top of the range seminars, located in the great outdoors, one hour drive from Paris, the Moulin de la Forge would like to offer a surprising experience to its customers with a meeting room built on stilts, over water. The Big Pound Room was designed by architect Bernard Desmoulin. Among his numerous references, many were tailored for art, thus creating a contemporary identity within remarkable sites: The restructuration of the Arts Décoratifs Museum in the Palais du Louvre, the Cluny Abbey, Casa de Francia in Mexico City, the Cluny Museum in Paris… His thought relies essentially on the search for an architecture in perfect unison with the sites. Far from useless digressions, his answers to environmental questions are expressed through a writing made of lasting materialities. His wish to satisfy timeless demands – poetry and well-being – allows him to reconcile Innovation with Familiarity. It is with this idea in mind that he designed the new space for the Moulin de la Forge Group. Its harmony with the domain’s identity and the surrounding heritage sites is remarkable. The Big Pound, a splendid construction with a wooden framework, offers a 300m² working space, entirely versatile and able to gather up to 140 participants. The bay windows and their view on the big pontoon overlooking the pond contribute to the creation of a productive and peaceful working atmosphere. The Moulin de la Forge is one of three domains entirely dedicated to company seminars: the Moulin de la Forge, the Manoir des Brumes and the Domaine de Rebetz located in the Oise department. Architect Bernard Desmoulin was the 2009 laureate of the prestigious Prix de l’Equerre d’Argent and won the silver medal of the Académie d’Architecture in 2000. His work is widely spread in France and internationally. Remarkable work: scenography in the Villa Médicis in Roma, scenography of the Rodin museum and of the Arts Décoratifs museum in Paris, restaurant of the ENSAM in the Cluny abbay, interior design of the “Grand Commun” of the château Versailles, music conservatory Léo Délibes in Clichy (Equerre d’Argent 2009)….
