New building for “El Redín” College in Pamplona, Spain by Otxotorena ArquitectosJuly 6th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Otxotorena Arquitectos The program of needs of the project is in function of the expectations of students of the School, given the evolution of the demand of places. And it is articulated around the requirements of the legislation in force in the matter, within the framework of the specificities of the educational project of the entity.
The construction of a new set of classrooms is understood from the outset as an optimal opportunity to readjust the suitability of the center’s facilities. It aims to satisfy the criteria that the experience has been establishing in relation to the design of the teaching spaces. And it faces with ambition the discussion concerning the dimensions of the planned premises, their spatial and comfort qualities, the resolution of their functional requirements, the evidence and clarity of the circulations, the choice of materials and the efficiency of the installations. The project undertakes the orderly arrangement of a total of 10 classrooms of current teaching next to the current headquarters of the College, in the area of the gardens of Aranzadi of Pamplona; According to the following structure: 3 secondary classrooms, 4 high school, 2 laboratories, and a music room. The result is a compact building connected to the existing one and dependent on it. It constitutes a volume of trapezoidal plant (of 14 meters of cradle by 45 of length); And consists of 4 floors that are arranged in continuity with those of the center. The proposal chooses to take advantage of the particular conditions of the plot, with a geometry that adapts to the urban regulations and assumes a setback of 5 meters with respect to the perimeter of the plot and the interior paths, starting from the decanted center criterion on its Location and their connections. This scheme tries to solve in an optimal way the relation of uses and communications, attending to the existent necessities in the ambit of the evacuation and the control of accesses. Taking advantage of the topography, the level of the ground floor coincides with that of the playground located on the north facade, while that of the basement is associated directly with the corresponding in the existing building. The building has two entrance points: one in basement, which links the general facilities of the center with the new building; And the main one, located on the ground floor, which overlooks the playground. Arguments of experience led the school to show their preference for a ceramic coating for the whole new building, for greater guarantees of maintenance and robustness. Contact Otxotorena Arquitectos
