Transformable Container House in Shanghai, China by HuaDu Architecture & Urban Design Group(HDD)
The client is a young man who just started his 3D printing business in Shanghai. By using 3D printing technology, now everyone can design jewelry.
Cannot afford the high rent in a normal office building in the city, the talented young man rent 4 container boxes for a very cheap price and used them as his office and home.
The container box is very flexible and solid, which appeals to young entrepreneuers. However, it is quite dim during the day and cold winter. It is also not very soundproofing.
Because of the transformable characteristic of container boxes, we arrange the boxes in different ways. In the future, we can even build buildings like playing Lego!
This is a new way of living and working. The space inside the container can be used for different functions, mainly living, working and entertainment.
The living mode package comes with a loft-like dinning room, a bedroom made up of folding bed, kitchen and a playground for kids.
For the working mode, all the design have to be reset according to different functions.
The wall on one side of the container box can be pulled up as the ceiling of the house’s”grey space”— an outside meeting place.
You can pull out a hidden box to make a room for party. The folding bed can be used as an extra bed to accomodate more guests.
The components can be pre-made in the factory and sent to the site. This project can be an inspiration for future use.
The folding wall, floor and movable space can be built in the factory and sent to the construction site using a crane.
There are plenty of plants where the containers are at. The project aims to keep the plants and create a harmonious relationship between building and the original site.
In the back yard, we have one more thing to show. This a simple tri-angled installation for meditation. It is 6 meters high in order to introduce the sunlight. Combining with mirror steel and rough steel, one can get meditative experience inside.
Renovation of container boxes is just the tip of iceberg for huge renovation projects for the next 10 years in China. We are trying to offer better sollutions to the living problems in China by using the premade industrial technology.
