Housing Express Scripts’ Advanced Research & Analytics, Decision Design, and Specialized Care Pharmacy groups, the Lab is both a functional collaborative workspace for these unique disciplines and a marketing environment poised to illustrate robust capabilities to visitors. Business partners and potential clients tour the facility to gain an understanding of the complex processes that position Express Scripts to produce better health outcomes. As such, the spaces within must inspire as well as operate flawlessly.

The “heart” of the Lab is a double-level, naturally lit collaboration atrium which flexibly responds to various and indeterminate modes of work. Elements such as tracking meeting booths, mobile technology tables, and tracking interactive monitor walls — all clad with white writable surfaces for more analog idea exchanges — can be reconfigured or stored as required per project or need. This capability allows the atrium to function as a hyper-activated, interdisciplinary work area as well as a large, open gathering or presentation space.

Media really becomes the most prominent “material” within the Lab while the architectural materials — chiefly white terrazzo, white auto-body finishes, maple, and metal — recede to provide a clean background for relaying communications. Again catering to multiple audiences, the advanced technologies within the Lab deliver data and information, are analytic and interactive work tools, and are also graphic display and presentation interfaces supporting the accompanying brand narrative.

Ultimately, the Lab underscores Express Scripts’ dedication to a “test and learn” environment, continually producing innovative solutions and striving to increase value for clients.
