Imperial Doncaster brings the epitome of modern urban living to one of Melbourne’s most rapidly changing suburbs. The 93 unit complex was designed to appeal to a wide demographic, easily catering to the needs of downsizing owner-occupiers with bigger apartment sizes and generous balcony spaces. The design takes into consideration the local suburbs, parks, shopping centre and already established businesses, seeking a balance between the economical, environmental and aesthetic.

The development, featuring a range of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with a series of large penthouses, is set on a steeply sloping site opposite Westfield Doncaster. The design responds to the existing landform, stepping down to the west, to both mediate with the existing suburban fabric and to create large planted terraces for penthouse units that benefit from panoramic city views.

To the busier, Williamsons Road side, a mini-glass tower defines the street presence with a perimeter balcony skin of glazed units which provide visual and acoustic privacy. Below, a double height sunken garden leads to the entry lobby with an integrated light sculpture by Kit Webster, offering the ultimate in ‘welcome home.’  The longer northern façade is screened for privacy and solar protection by retractable louvered screens.

The interior design response underpins the luxury, style and attention to detail of the development, employing a delicate play between luxe and natural materials to maintain a timeless elegance.

The design considers the surrounding urban grain, using fine detailing and harmonious qualities to create a contrast between tones and textures, reflecting the distinction between the calmness of the apartment space and the busy suburban streetscape.

A point of difference in the interior design is the intelligent use of space.  A true sense of openness is evoked through the clever use of storage and the zoned spaces designed to work from their first principles.  Study nooks provide a light-filled, private workspace; kitchens and dining spaces are designed to entertain; and living rooms are designed for living with large open spaces and sweeping views.
